1st Discussion

There will be 2 Practice On-Line. Each will have 5 marks.

How to do this assignment?

Follow these steps:

(1) Download the Hand-Out

(2) read the whole passage : " Queen Margret Cave"

(3) now go to your class forum and look for your group.

(4) you should find the Captain has already posted the passage
that you have to translate and with it the translation of GOOGLE.

(5) locate the mistakes that GOOGLE made and how to do it correctly.
e.g. (امي أحسن وحدة) (Lamy best unit)
wrong meaning in "unit", it should be "woman".
wrong meaning in "Lamy", it should be "My mother".
grammer misake in (Lamy best unit), no verb.
punctuation, there has to be a full stop at the end of the sentence.

(6) Make a final draft: e.g. My mother is the best woman.

(7) the next student will look at the final draft of her previous team-mate
and begin to criticize it.
e.g. word choice in "woman" it should be "person"
structure is weak "My mother is the best woman." It should be completed with " in the world" to deliver the meaning.

( the second student will also write a final draft.
e.g. "My mother is the best person in the world."

(9) and the third and fourth (if you have a fourth) will continue in the same way.

(10) the discussion that will have a bonus is the one in which the discussion is continued to perfection.


ATTENTION!!
** You must print the discussion and give it to the captain the day of the exam.
I will not take anything presented by you. Only from the captain.

the ladies who do NOT discuss but rather say:
" oh it is so0o0o0o0o good " or just copy-pastes her translation.
When you are discussing your friend translation, you do not stop and just
give your translation ! that is unacceptable as well as rude.
in a discussion, say what you liked then what you disagree on.. if
nothing comes to mind then you must ask your self : Did i REALLY
translate that passage? because having no opinion is NOT normal.

so, i will grade you on how hard you work on the discussion it self.

* Even though you are in a group, the grading is separate depending on your effort.

Things i got PM's about:

1- can we assign a certain sentence for each team member?
If you did that, then there will be no discussion. and no one will get any marks.

2- are there mistakes in the English text?
no, the English text is the Source text.

3- Can i correct a mistake without saying what type of mistake it is?
half the mark in the discussion, is on your ability to identify the type of mistake.
you can refer to the table in the hand out that has a list of mistakes names and short form.

I got another PM asking :
Can i reply saying : there are many grammar, spelling, punctuation, wrong meaning,word choice mistakes in this paragraph. and here is my translation : "bla bla bla" <-- the correction of the whole paragraph.

my answer:
you will get a zero this way.
where are the mistakes and how do i know you identified them correctly?

1- how much is the bonus for the perfect final draft translation?
1 mark for all members who discussed.

2- I can not make the forum write Arabic punctuation correctly and also i cant leave five letter space. what can i do? i know it is a mistake.

The best way to deal with this problem is when you want to put your final draft, print screen it from your word document and up-load the picture. and post the picture with your reply.

Q:Does every student need to write a final draft after she is done discussing the mistakes?

A:Yes it makes it easier to follow how she imagines the text.

Q: Me and all my team only discussed the google translation and did not comment on each other final draft. is it ok?

A: No it is not ok. That is the worst thing to do. Doing that will let you get only 1 mark out of 5.
It is called discussion, an exchange of opinion not an individual analysis.
